This is a diet that works to improve kidney health by limiting the intake of phosphorous, sodium, and low-quality proteins.
We won’t bore you with the science, but our point is, the renal diet should work.
However, the reduced protein content in the means it simply isn't tasty for cats...
(With some cats choosing to starve than eat it)
So the question is, what good is an effective diet, if your cat won’t eat?
And that’s the unfortunate vicious cycle of CKD. (There is an answer to this, but more on that later.)
It may even seem as though CKD has completely wiped out your cat’s personality.
Reports of spacing out, acting lost, and aimlessly wandering are also common.
Some cats will snap out of it for a second and look for attention and cuddles, only to zone out once again.
Willing to do anything to get their cat back, many will search the internet for solutions.
They are then disappointed to find tons of false promises of products that claim to “fix” CKD.
This, of course, is nonsense.
While CKD is a manageable disease, there is no way to reverse it.
Managing CKD is all about breaking the vicious cycle we mentioned earlier by stabilizing and comforting your cat from the effects of CKD.
This way, they have the energy, awareness, and appetite to follow their vet’s prescription.
There are supplements for cats that help with this very thing.
One of which, we proudly announce, is our very own Kidney Vitalize Chews from Scruffy Paws Nutrition.
